Tamilisai Soundararajan, the governor of Telangana, has resigned and is reportedly “likely to contest Lok Sabha polls.”

Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Tamilisai Soundararajan offered her resignation on Monday as the lieutenant governor of Puducherry and governor of Telangana. Puducherry Raj Bhavan verified the development. It is anticipated that she will run in the next general election.

“With immediate effect, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Honourable Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, has offered her resignation. The resignation was sent to the President of India, according to a statement from the government.

Tamilisai Soundararajan: Who is she?
In September 2019, Soundararajan, the former leader of the Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party, was named governor of Telangana. After Kiran Bedi was ousted, she was assigned an additional role as L-G of Puducherry.

Before being appointed governor, Soundararajan, the seasoned Congresswoman Kumari Ananthan’s daughter, served in the BJP for more than 20 years. Originating from the powerful Nagar community, Tamilisai was soundly defeated by DMK’s Kanimozhi in Thoothukudi’s 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
