Telangana Assembly Polls: Hyderabad Will Be Renamed Bhagyanagar If BJP Wins, Says BJP Chief G Kishan Reddy

Union Minister and Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy said on Monday that Hyderabad will be renamed “Bhagyanagar” in the event that his party were to win the state.

In his interview with reporters, Reddy referenced the example of cities like Madras, Bombay, and Calcutta that had their names altered.

Indeed. Without a doubt, Hyderabad’s name will change if the BJP wins control. I want to know who Hyder is. Does Hyder’s name need to be known? From whence has Hyder originated? Who needs Hyder, I ask? “We will undoubtedly remove Hyder and rename the area Bhagyanagar if the Bharatiya Janata Party wins the election,” he said.

He questioned why the name shouldn’t be altered.

He added that the DMK administration, not the BJP, was the one who had changed Madras’ name to Chennai.

He questioned why Hyderabad should now be called Bhagyanagar, whereas Madras, Bombay, Calcutta, and Rajpath have all been renamed as Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Kartavya Path, respectively.

“We will completely change all those which reflect the slavish mentality if BJP comes to power,” he said.

He also said that the BJP will consider the suggestions of scholars on renaming.

The name Bhagyanagar translates to “city of fortunes.”

During his electoral rallies in Telangana, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that Hyderabad should be renamed “Bhagyanagar” in order to improve its future, and that Mahabubnagar should be reestablished as Palamuru.
