Telangana HC requests an answer from important authorities

Important figures and parties engaged in a writ case filed by BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy seeking Danam Nagender’s disqualification as MLA from Khairatabad for switching parties to the Congress received notifications from Justice B Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court on Monday.

The senior secretary, the assembly secretary, the chief election commissioner, Nagender, and the Law and Legislative department were all sent letters by the court requesting a response by April 25, 2024.

Senior attorney Gandra Mohan Rao, who was representing Kaushik Reddy, told the court that his client had the right to submit the writ case since he was a BRS MLA. He emphasized that members have not been allowed to enter the Speaker of the Assembly’s chamber to file disqualification petitions against MLAs who have defected to the governing Congress, and that the Speaker has been unapproachable. Citing Supreme Court precedents that require the Speaker to make a decision on disqualification petitions within a certain amount of time, Mohan Rao emphasized the gravity of the situation.
