Tharoor Slams Center For Ignoring Kharge’s Invitation To G20 Gala Dinner: “Spirit Of Accommodation Absent Within Indian Politics”

Shashi Tharoor, a Congress member, attacked the BJP-led central government harshly on Sunday for failing to invite Mallikarjun Kharge, the head of the Congress and the opposition leader in the Rajya Sabha, to the G20 gala dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu. Tharoor referred to this as a lack of the spirit of accommodation in Indian politics.

No other democracy, Tharoor emphasized, would reject its own parliamentary allies on a grand scale. He also said that the current administration did not approach its internal disputes with the same spirit of compromise and collaboration.

Tharoor posted on X, previously known as Twitter, saying, “This diplomatic triumph makes it all the more a pity that the government does not bring the same attitude of conciliation & co-operation to bear in its domestic dealings.”

“My view is further supported by the fact that neither the Leader of the Opposition nor any other Opposition MP was invited to any G20 activities, receptions, dinners, etc. On a worldwide stage, no other democracy would treat its own parliamentary members with such contempt. It’s unfortunate that Indian politics lack the spirit of compromise that permeated the G20, the Congress MP said.

Earlier in the day, Tharoor commended Amitabh Kant, India’s G20 Sherpa, for his tireless efforts in crafting the New Delhi Declaration, a joint statement uniting India, Russia, China, and other Western nations.

Bravo, @amitabhk87! When you chose the IAS, it seemed that the IFS lost an accomplished diplomat.Russia and China were negotiated with, and only last night did a final text become available, according to the consensus behind the ‘Delhi Declaration’ from India’s G20 Sherpa. He commented on X, “A proud moment for India at the G20.

Siddaramaiah, the chief minister of Karnataka, said earlier on Saturday that it is ‘wrong’ to not invite the Congress leader to the G20 dinner. He also said that owing to previous job obligations, he would be unable to attend the summit.

Bhupesh Baghel, the chief minister of Chattisgarh, had previously said that he would not be travelling to the President’s G20 dinner since there were no non-scheduled aircraft coming into or leaving from Delhi because of security precautions for the high-profile G20 Summit this weekend.
