The Center Approves the Purchase Of Military Hardware Worth Rs. 45,000 Crore, Including Su-30 MKI Fighter Jets And Dhruvastra Air-To-Surface Missile

The purchase of 12 Su-30 MKI fighter planes and the Dhruvastra short-range air-to-surface missile, which would cost around Rs 45,000 crore, was approved by the Defence Ministry on Friday. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited will produce the 12 Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft in India.

Along with next-generation survey boats for the Indian Navy, the DAC approved the purchase of High Mobility Vehicle (HMV) Gun Towing Vehicles for quick mobilisation and deployment of artillery cannons and radars.

All equipment will be purchased under the “Buy (Indian-indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured (IDDM)/Buy (Indian)” category, giving Atmanirbhar Bharat and self-reliance a significant boost.

The Buy (Indian) category refers to the purchase of weapons and systems with a minimum 60% indigenous content on the cost basis of the base contract price, even if they may not have been created and produced locally. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recommended aiming for a minimum of 60-65% indigenous content rather than a requirement of 50% for IDDM projects.

The Indian government has already taken a number of actions to produce homegrown cutting-edge technology. Included in this are two Defense Industrial Corridors that have been established in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh to encourage domestic manufacturing of defense and aerospace-related goods. within the last several years, India has also released four lists that prohibit more than 400 distinct kinds of weaponry and military equipment, all of which are anticipated to be indigenously produced within the next five to six years.
