The center should deal with Ladakh’s problems: Ibrahim Mohamed Tarigami

Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami, the leader of the CPI (M), said on Wednesday that the Center needs to take note of the request to include Ladakh in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

“The Sixth Schedule’s constitutional safeguards are being called for unanimity today. Our shared past and worries about Ladakh resonate profoundly with the hopes and dreams of its inhabitants. Tarigami stated in a statement that “it is imperative that the Indian government listen to their voices and promptly address their grievances.”

Ladakh’s separation from the former state, he said, was never something the people of Jammu and Kashmir wanted. However, it occurred suddenly and against our will. The CPI(M) leader said, “A segment of the Leh community that had previously applauded Ladakh’s admission as a Union Territory now recognises its limitations and says it would rather have constitutional assurances for their advancement.

According to Tarigami, the demands of the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) and the Apex Body, Leh (ABL) include protections under the Sixth Schedule, a constitutional clause that preserves tribal culture because 90% of the people in the region are tribal, as well as rights to land and employment.

“The people of Jammu and Kashmir support democratic rights and constitutional guarantees, standing in solidarity with Ladakh.” We implore the Indian government to acknowledge that these arbitrary divides created on August 5, 2019, cannot shatter our oneness, and that these artificial boundaries cannot split us,” he said.

On August 5, 2019, the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted Jammu and Kashmir a unique status, were revoked, and the former state was divided into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
