The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is going to take over nine additional cases on the violence in Manipur, bringing the total to 17

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is going to examine nine additional cases linked to the violence in Manipur, which would bring the total number of cases being investigated by the agency up to 17, according to the authorities.

According to officials who are up to date on the events, the investigation being conducted by the central agency will not be restricted to just 17 instances. According to what they claimed, any more cases involving crimes against women or sexual assault might potentially be sent to it on a priority basis.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has so far opened up eight investigations, including two that are allegedly connected to the sexual assault of women in Manipur. According to the authorities, it is now in the process of taking over nine further cases.

They claim that it is possible that the investigation agency will take up yet another case of alleged sexual assault that occurred in the Churachandpur area of the state.

Due to the fact that society is split along ethnic lines, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is faced with the difficult challenge of avoiding claims of prejudice during the operation in Manipur. According to the authorities, any participation of persons from one group may result in fingers being pointed from the other side.

According to some sources, numerous of these incidents are now being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and they may attract provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, which may be investigated by an official with the rank of deputy superintendent of police.

They said that the agency would be mobilizing its superintendents of police to oversee and monitor the investigations since the deputy superintendents cannot act as supervisory officers in such situations.

Because any sample collection or its inspection by any attendant from either of the two warring groups may result in question marks on the impartiality of the inquiry, the central investigative agency will transfer all forensic samples to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, they stated.

According to the sources, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has recruited female officers in the state to assist in the investigation of cases involving crimes committed against women. This fulfills a necessary need for the purposes of recording statements and interviewing witnesses.

Since the first outbreak of ethnic violence in the state on May 3, when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in the hill regions to protest against the dominant Meitei community’s quest for Scheduled Tribe status, more than 160 people have been murdered, and several hundred more have been wounded. The violence in the state was first sparked by the organization of the march.

Meiteis make up around 53% of Manipur’s population and make up the majority of residents in the Imphal Valley. On the other hand, tribal peoples such as Nagas and Kukis make up 40% of the state’s population and make up the majority of residents in the hill districts.
