The Congress is seeking ideas for a “people’s manifesto” as the Lok Sabha elections draw near

Delhi, New: The Congress has extended an invitation to citizens across to provide recommendations for its platform ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. The head of the committee drafting the manifesto, former Union Minister P Chidambaram, said that it will be a “people’s manifesto”.
As many recommendations as feasible would be included by the Congress, according to Mr. Chidambaram.

“Besides public consultations to be held by members of the Manifesto Committee in every state, the Congress has set up an e-mail account and a dedicated website for suggestions,” he said.

According to the party, proposals for the Congress manifesto may be sent to [email protected] or uploaded directly at www.awaazbharatki.in.

The convenor of the committee, TS Singh Deo, emphasized the significance of this effort. The former deputy chief minister of Chhattisgarh, Mr. Deo, said on Wednesday, “…we must seek suggestions from stakeholders for whom the manifesto is meant, so it does not remain an academic exercise.”

KC Venugopal, the general secretary of Congress, subsequently posted on X.

The Congress represents the will of the people; it is not a party. We don’t think in developing laws from the top down; instead, we take the goals of regular people and implement relevant laws that improve their quality of life. Join us as we ask for your suggestions for our 2024 manifesto!”

“Submit your inputs to https://awaazbharatki.in and participate in this historic exercise!”

The 16-member group includes Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who sparked intense rumors last month that she could eventually run for office in a major election against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Siddaramaiah, the chief minister of Karnataka, is also on the panel.

Two candidates have reportedly been put out for this position so far: Ms. Gandhi Vadra and Nitish Kumar, the leader of the Janata Dal (United) and chief minister of Bihar.

The group also includes Gujarat politician Jignesh Mevani, the party’s deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, and former Union Ministers Anand Sharma, Jairam Ramesh, and Shashi Tharoor.

In an attempt to prevent Mr. Modi and the governing BJP from seeking a third consecutive term in office, the opposition INDIA alliance has come together under the leadership of the Congress. The group, which consists of more than two dozen national and local political groups, is under strain, however, since there have been rumors of divisions about seat distribution.

In certain areas, like Uttar Pradesh, which is politically significant, agreements to split seats among INDIA members are reportedly almost finished. However, in other states, like Bengal, where the Trinamool Congress is in power, and Punjab and Delhi, where the AAP is in charge, there are still obstacles to overcome.

However, there was positive news this week on the latter. As the two parties work out a pact for Punjab’s thirteen Lok Sabha seats and Delhi’s seven Lok Sabha seats, the AAP and the Congress have decided to run together in Thursday’s Chandigarh mayoral election.
