The Dalai Lama was given sacred lord Buddha relics from Sri Lanka

On Thursday morning, Lord Buddha presented the Dalai Lama with his holy Kapilawasthu relics, which had previously been kept in the RajaGuru Sri Subuthi Waskaduwa Maha Viharaya in Sri Lanka, as a profound act of spiritual devotion. Renowned for their spiritual and historical significance, the Kapilavastu relics provide a strong connection between followers of Lord Buddha and his teachings and enlightenment.

Keeper of the Artefacts
At the Sri Subhuthi Maha Viharaya in Waskaduwa, Sri Lanka, “Waskaduwe Mahindawamsa Nayaka Thero” has painstakingly kept and guarded the 21 sacred relics for centuries.

Past occurrences
At the Main Tibetan Temple in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, in February, the Dalai Lama taught lessons from the Jataka Tales to more than 3,000 Tibetan devotees in honour of Chotrul Duechen.

Observing Buddhist holidays
Chotrul Duechen commemorates important moments in Lord Buddha’s life and is observed on the fifteenth day of the first Tibetan month. It is known as the “Great Day of Miraculous Manifestations.”

Exhibiting relics in Thailand
Over 4 million devotees from Thailand and the Mekong area visited four towns in March to see the relics of Lord Buddha and his two principal followers, Arahant Sariputta and Maha Moggallana.

a coordinated effort
The exhibition of the holy relics, organised by the Indian Ministry of Culture and the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), began in New Delhi on February 22 and travelled to the provinces of Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, and Krabi.
