The Karnataka government is going to start a campaign to check vegetables sold in Bengaluru for pesticide and heavy metals

The Karnataka Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSA), alarmed by a report regarding heavy metal contamination in vegetables sold in the city, said that it would begin a campaign to test the veggies.

In a statement, the FSSA Commissioner said that the agency will file a lawsuit in light of the campaign’s findings.

The directives were issued in response to a media story alleging that vegetables around the city were contaminated with heavy metals.

According to the Commissioner, any edible product with an iron concentration higher than what is allowed is dangerous for human consumption, and those who sell such risk prison time of between six months and six years as well as fines of between Rs one lakh and Rs five lakh.
