A candidate for the YSRC BC hopes to alter the polling equations in Kamma Bastion

The Mylavaram Assembly constituency, which has supported the Kamma community for more than 60 years, from Chanumolu Venkata Rao to the most recent Vasantha Venkata Krishna Prasad, is a difficult seat for candidates outside of the Kamma group to win. YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister and head of the YSRC, nonetheless, took a chance by fielding Sarnala Tirupathi Rao Yadav from the Yadava tribe, even though he had to deal with a similar situation when he did the same with Jogi Ramesh from the Gowda community back in 2014.

Vasantha Venkata Krishna Prasad, the incumbent YSRC MLA, quit the party and joined the TDP, where he was given a ticket to run in the 2024 elections after the latter denied him one for the second time in a row. Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, a former MLA and minister of water resources, was succeeded by Vasantha.

The Election Commission of India provided the following statistics: of the 2,78,919 voters in the constituency, 1,35,457 are male, 1,43,443 are female, and 13 are of third gender. The Delimitation Orders (1955) stipulated the constituency’s creation.

There are four mandals in the Mylavaram constituency: G Konduru, Mylavaram, Reddygudem, and Vijayawada rural. These mandals are made up of both urban and rural voters.

People in Mylavaram, paying close attention to the outcomes of the last election, never offered outsiders—regardless of party—a chance to triumph other than the Kamma community. Every politician, whether from the TDP, Left parties, Congress, or YSRC, comes from a strong community.

Yadav Sarnala Tirupathi Rao YSRC
However, many who had supported Vasantha Venkata Krishna Prasad for the previous five years also switched to the TDP, leaving a void for the YSRC candidate in a few locations, including Gollapudi, Ibrahimpatnam, Kondapalli, G Kondur, and a portion of Mylavaram town.

In the next general elections, there is a potential for a different result, however, since top YSRC party officials are keeping a careful eye on the campaign and performance of their nominated candidate, Sarnala Tirupathi Rao Yadav.

Paradoxically, YSRC candidate Tirupati Rao Yadav has said on many occasions that Jagan Mohan Reddy will be there to lend his support to his campaign. Additionally, he sent off an air of assurance that victors for Mylavaram will come from other areas, breaking records this time.

“The CM Jagan Mohan Reddy has blessed me, and the YSRC party has supporters.” YSRC MLA candidate Sarnala Tirupathi Rao Yadav said, “YSRC will record a thumping victory in the 2024 elections, regardless of the candidate, as the present MLA failed to develop the constituency.”

Furthermore, since he has his own cadre in the Mylavaram constituency, the YSRC candidate is confident in the backing of Kesineni Srinivas, also known as Nani, the candidate for Vijayawada MP.

Venkata Krishna Prasad Vasantha TDP
It is a fact that over 80% of Mylavaram is rural, with the remaining 20% being semi-urban. Since the majority of rural people profit from the programs carried out by the YSRC administration headed by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the YSRC party is heavily reliant on them. During the YSRC government, the poor benefited more than ever before. The poor would be the ones who suffer if the TDP wins power, according to Tirupathi Rao.

In the meanwhile, Vasantha Venkata Krishna Prasad, the TDP candidate, is working tirelessly to win over every community, particularly those in rural regions. People who collaborated with him at YSRC are gradually defecting from the party and joining Vasantha. More than a hundred local leaders from G Kondur, Kondapalli, Gollapudi, and Ibrahimpatnam joined Vasantha’s campaigns after leaving the YSRC. Regardless of the party, I created Mylavaram. People would support me since they have seen my efforts, Vasantha said with assurance.

Support from TDP chief Bommasani Subba Rao and Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao is also advantageous to Vasantha.
