The Rs 8,811 crore budget for housing, public works, and sports by the Delhi authorities

The department will concentrate on building sports facilities and municipal infrastructure to create a “healthy and fit Delhi” with an annual budget of Rs 8,811 crore sanctioned by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for 2024–2025.

While accepting the budget, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena said that the authority would carry out a number of development projects in the next fiscal year with an emphasis on improved housing, aesthetically pleasing landscape enhancements, and the preservation and restoration of the city’s historical landmarks.

According to the Center’s focus, capital expenditures make up around 61% of yearly appropriations. In the current fiscal year, DDA’s total collections increased by a staggering 75% to Rs 7,696 crore from Rs 4,392 crore in the prior year.

The estimated income of Rs 9,182 crore would be used to cover the anticipated expenditure for these projects in the next fiscal year 2024–2025.

The DDA has set income projections for the next year of Rs 9182 crore, which represents an approximate 19% rise.

Moreover, the wildly popular “Diwali Special Housing Scheme” is anticipated to provide the DDA’s General Development Account (GDA) with a surplus of Rs 262 crore. This is the GDA of DDA’s first surplus in ten years.

The DDA intends to place a major emphasis on development initiatives that enhance housing and the overall aesthetics of landscapes in the next fiscal year. The forecasted income for the next financial year would be used to cover the expected expenditure of Rs 9,182 crore.

There will be significant funding allocated to the building of municipal infrastructure, which will include electricity lines, roads, sewage systems, and water supplies. In terms of transportation, Phase IV of Delhi Metro has received more funding, while UER-II construction is almost finished.

Additionally, special attention will be paid to designing public areas that inspire Delhi people to interact with parks, historic buildings, and the Yamuna riverside. Plans include for the creation of biodiversity parks, Bharat Vandana Park in Dwarka, and the revitalization and restoration of the Yamuna floodplains.

In addition to these efforts, investments in the building of sports centers have been undertaken to provide for a fit and healthy Delhi. For Narela, a brand-new sports facility is being considered. For these sporting facilities, BE 2024–25 and RE 2023–24 have allocated funds totaling Rs 266 crore and Rs 196 crore, respectively.

In terms of housing, Rs 1,953 crore has been set aside for current housing projects in Delhi, with a focus on giving slum residents pucca dwellings via in-situ rehabilitation and slum redevelopment.
