Transfer of Guntur Range IG, 5 SPs, and 3 collectors is ordered by ECI

In advance of the general elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday directed the removal of three district election officials (Collectors), five superintendents of police, and one IG level officer. The policemen were moved immediately, according to the ECI.

Some of the SPs were the target of accusations for neglecting to uphold law and order. According to reports, the Palnadu SP and the Guntur Range IG were moved because they were unable to control the crowds during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election campaign last month.

The ECI further instructed that the police transfer the charge to the officer who is the immediate subordinate in rank in the message that was sent to the Chief Secretary on Tuesday.

The ECI said, “Until the simultaneous elections for the Legislative Assembly and the Lok Sabha are completed, these officers should not be assigned to any election-related work.”

In order to designate them as DEOs for the three districts and as SPs for the five districts, the ECI requested that the Chief Secretary send a panel comprising three IAS officials and three IPS officers.

In addition, the ECI has requested that the Commission get the Vigilance Clearance and the past five years’ Annual Performance Appraisal Report (APAR) grades.

Sources claim that the ECI received complaints against these officers for allegedly failing to uphold law and order as well as for failing to stop anomalies in the voter list creation process.

Palnadu SP Y Ravi Sankar Reddy and Guntur Range IG G Pala Raju were two among the officials that were moved.

According to sources, the ECI initiated action against them for security violations that occurred during the TDP-BJP-JSP combine’s public gathering in Chilakaluripet last month, which was attended by Narendra Modi.

Modi’s speech was disrupted by the police’s inability to manage the throng, which also destroyed the public speaker system.

There were also claims that the police, acting on behalf of the governing party, had stopped a number of cars from getting to the location of the public meeting.
