The UP government builds check dams to charge groundwater

The Uttar Pradesh government, headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is erecting groundwater charging stations in 13 districts of the state for a total of Rs 8 crore as part of its continuous drive to preserve groundwater. The activity is being done because ground water levels are dropping as a result of overuse in both rural and urban regions.
Hathras, Badaun, Moradabad, Sambhal, Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Sonbhadra, Lalitpur, Jalaun, Hamirpur, and Chitrakoot are the 13 districts that would benefit from the project. According to authorities here on Thursday, a directive has also been issued to release funding for the project.

The Chief Engineer of the Minor Irrigation Department will be in charge of overseeing the construction of the groundwater charging check dams. The Chief Engineer will control the dam’s construction and all associated aspects.

Additionally, he will watch out for any diversion of the state government’s allotted cash for the authorized development projects. Following the guidelines of the Uttar Pradesh Budget Manual and Financial Handbook, all essential measures, such as acquiring the requisite certifications, buying machinery and construction equipment, and other needed processes, will be carried out.
