The West Bengal Governor meets with Amit Shah to talk about the “pending central funds” problem

West Bengal’s Governor, CV Ananda Bose, asserted on Thursday that the central government would settle the outstanding dues of the state following a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. The discussion encompassed the financial predicament and other pertinent issues concerning the state.

The rendezvous with Shah occurred a day prior to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s scheduled protest in Kolkata, set for Friday.

Governor Bose communicated that he engaged in a comprehensive dialogue with Home Minister Shah regarding the disbursement of funds owed to West Bengal.

“I have engaged in a conversation with Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the allocation of funds, and he has assured me that all pending dues for the people of Bengal will be fulfilled, subject to the fulfillment of criteria set forth by the Government of India,” stated Bose from the national capital.

The Governor also highlighted that he personally scrutinized the matter at his level, signifying a proactive stance in resolving the financial deadlock. “I have reviewed it at my level, and we will undertake whatever is necessary. It is being addressed,” he added after the meeting.

The retention of funds by the central government, particularly under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), had evolved into a significant political controversy in West Bengal.

Beyond financial deliberations, the meeting between Governor Bose and Home Minister Shah also delved into the law and order situation in West Bengal.
