The whole of Kashmir has been turned into a prison: Mehbooba

Mehbooba Mufti, the head of the PDP and a former chief minister of J&K, began her campaign for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat on Tuesday with a road show in Pulwama. She pledged to give voice to the voiceless in Jammu and Kashmir.

Following the road show, Mufti informed reporters, “I have started my election campaign to raise voice against this enforced silence, the wanton arrests and the atmosphere of suffocation that prevails here.”

“Shopian and Pulwama have always backed us, and here is where I launched my campaign. I’m hoping that people will support our voice, which discusses Jammu and Kashmir’s scars,” she said.

The National Conference candidate and well-known Gujjar leader, Mian Altaf Ahmad, is running against the former chief minister. He said that since the polls were declared, a practice of detaining young people has begun.

“Kashmir has been turned into a prison throughout. Nobody is permitted to speak. The arrest procedure began as soon as the polls were declared, according to Mufti.

“It’s sad that there have been reports of extremists shooting at a tour guide in Shopian. She clarified, “But that does not imply you would round up hundreds of young people and put them under the Public Safety Act.

According to the mufti, the problem was not exclusive to the Pulwama area or Shopian.

It is not limited to the districts of Pulwama and Shopian; this mood has spread across Kashmir. Why are they making these arbitrary arrests if they are saying that everything is normal? She enquired.

Speaking to the populace of the Shopian area in South Kashmir, she hinted that this parliamentary election may be the last one held in Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba said that she was unsure whether Jammu and Kashmir would see any elections in New Delhi after the Lok Sabha elections.

Waheed Para, the PDP’s youth president and contender for the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, accompanied the party’s president.

Waheed is with me here. He’s been through everything over the last few years. He seems to capture Kashmir and what’s going on with its people and youth, in my opinion,” the woman said.

On May 7, the third round of voting will take place for the Lok Sabha seat representing Anantnag and Rajouri.

BJP asks, Are your rallies included in the prison manual?

Srinagar: In view of Mehbobba Mufti’s recent political involvement, the BJP has questioned her statement from prison. “A question to Mehbooba Mufti: If Kashmir is a jail, have public rallies, road shows, press conferences and media bytes become part of the jail manual?” Stated BJP leader Altaf Thakur.
