To choose candidates for the next state assembly elections, PM Narendra Modi and other prominent BJP leaders attend a meeting of the Central Election Committee

At the Bharatiya Janata Party headquarters in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent BJP officials gathered for the party’s Central Election Committee meeting. The purpose of the conference was to decide the candidates for the forthcoming Telangana and Rajasthan Assembly elections and to discuss strategy.

Telangana’s elections are slated for November 30 this year, while the Rajasthan Assembly polls are planned for November 25.

J.P. Nadda, the president of the party, and Union Minister Amit Shah were there with Modi. The party has not yet revealed its nominees for the 76 seats up for grabs in the November 25 200-member Rajasthan assembly elections. Similar to this, the BJP has announced its candidates for 53 seats in the 119-member Telangana legislature, which will hold elections on November 30.

The BJP has stepped up its efforts with the aim of making a powerful return in Congress-ruled Rajasthan and regaining its influence in BRS-ruled Telangana, where the Congress is also fighting for a comeback.

To complete the list of possible candidates before the Central Election Committee makes the final choices, Shah and Nadda have had lengthy talks with party leaders from these states.

Notably, the BJP fielded three MPs in Telangana and seven in Rajasthan for the elections. Observers are paying close attention to these assembly elections in five states, including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Mizoram, since many see them as a prelude to the pivotal Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
