To prevent his young daughter’s marriage in Andhra Pradesh, a man climbs a cell tower

In order to prevent his underage daughter from being married in Chinna Vellamilli village, Unguturu mandal, on Friday, a man from Eluru district scaled a mobile phone tower.

Chebrolu SI Mani Kumar said that the girl’s parents had split up a few years before. On March 24, the girl’s mother planned for her to marry a lad from Chintayigudem. Upon discovering the nuptials, the father ascended a mobile phone tower and said that he would not down until his daughter’s marriage was prevented.

Personnel from the women’s welfare department, Anganwadi teachers, and local police hurried to the scene. The guy insisted that the marriage be halted by the police.

The mother and the little daughter later received counseling from the police. And with that, the father descended the tower.

In a different incidence, two child weddings in the villages of Vegiwada and Koppaka in the Pedavegi mandal of Eluru district have been prevented during the last week, according to Project Officer Vijaylakshmi of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).

Dr. Surya Chakraveni, the district child protection officer, hurried to the scene upon learning of the situation and saved the 14-year-old girl.
