Today, the Supreme Court will consider a minor’s request to abort a 28-week pregnancy

A 14-year-old accused rape victim’s request to end her 28-week pregnancy is set to be heard by the Supreme Court on Monday.

Her case will be heard as the first item on Monday by a bench made up of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice JB Pardiwala, according to the website of the supreme Court. On April 19, the supreme Court ordered her to undergo a medical checkup in response to a petition filed by her mother, who was contesting the Bombay High Court’s ruling that the pregnancy could not be terminated due to its advanced stage.

It had requested a report about the girl’s potential physical and psychological state from Mumbai’s Sion hospital regarding whether or not she is recommended against having a medical termination of her pregnancy.

The hospital’s medical superintendent was instructed by the bench to form the medical board and provide the report to the court on April 22, the day of the next hearing.
