Traffic problems: Delhi’s metro stations and many roadways are still closed

On Friday morning, commuters near ITO, Rajghat, and Vikas Marg had a terrifying experience due to severe traffic jams caused by highways being closed towards DDU Marg in response to the AAP’s protest over the detention of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

In addition, as security was stepped up in several areas of the city, Delhi police and security personnel blocked many roadways, causing traffic jams in various locations.

The planned political party demonstration at DDU Marg in Delhi is expected to cause traffic jams in IP Marg, Vikas Marg, Minto Road, and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. DDU Marg will remain blocked to through traffic. Please stay off these routes and make appropriate travel plans, the Delhi traffic police said in a message posted on X (previously Twitter).

The traffic police warned commuters to stay off Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Janpath, Krishna Menon Marg, and Motilal Nehru Marg since those routes led to the ED headquarters were also closed. Geeta Colony and Rajghat also experienced severe traffic congestion.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) shuttered the Lok Kalyan Marg and ITO metro stations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. due to protests.

The DMRC said on X that, “Until further notice, the Lok Kalyan Marg Metro station will remain closed in addition to the ITO Metro station, per the advice of Delhi Police.”

“To get to the office, I had to take an e-rickshaw back to the ITO after exiting the metro at Delhi Gate station because it did not stop at the ITO station,” a commenter stated.

Section 144 was implemented at ITO on Friday morning in anticipation of the demonstration, according to an official.
