Two in a cocaine case get 10-year prison sentences

In an NDPS case that was filed eight years ago, a local court has convicted two accused—Satish Kumar and Avtar Singh—to ten years of rigorous imprisonment (RI). Each prisoner has also been fined Rs. 1 lakh by the court. The prosecution claims that on August 11, 2016, next to the Sector 43 bus stop, an NCB squad apprehended the accused with 2.7 kg of opium.

The defendants had secreted opium inside their slippers. After slicing slippers, the NCB crew was able to retrieve the contraband. Following an investigation, the accused was charged by the NCB. After establishing a prima facie case, the accused entered a not guilty plea and requested a trial.

Special public prosecutor Kailash Chander said that the prosecution has proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt. The court sentenced both convicted parties after hearing arguments.
