Two lakes in Benglauru are being revived by the IPL cricket club RCB

As part of its Go Green Initiative and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) cricket team of the Indian Premier League (IPL) set out to revitalize three local lakes. As to an India Cares Foundation study, RCB has implemented civic facilities in one of the city’s main lakes and has restored two others. In addition, the Lake Improvement Works Project and assistance from Friends of Lakes specialists allowed for the development and desilting of Ittgalpura and Sadenahalli lakes.

The lakes were chosen, according to the study, because they were located in regions that were severely water-stressed and had borewell depths ranging from 1000 to 1500 feet. Additionally, these regions lacked access to Cauvery River water and were mostly dependent on surface and groundwater.

In addition, more than 1.20 lakh tons of sand and silt were taken out of the two lakes and used to build paths and bunds. To utilize it as topsoil for their farms, fifty-two farmers silt.

Since nine acres of lake area have been restored, ponds and wetlands have stabilized, and the lakes’ ability to retain water has increased to a maximum of 17 acres.
