Urine being left outside of train stations and other important locations; action is being sought

Even though the municipal corporation says it is implementing cleaning initiatives and building new public restrooms, open urinating is still a common habit that causes a lot of annoyance in numerous areas. Due to the dearth of suitable public restrooms, open defecation has been a regular occurrence in the vicinity of notable locations, including the bus stop, Books Market Road, Gandhi Nagar on Old GT Road, and the train station. It is difficult for people to go through these locations because of the stink they release.

Satinderpal Singh, a city resident, emphasized that while there are regular cleaning campaigns like the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, the problem of open urinating still exists. He emphasized how urgently more public restrooms were needed in the vicinity of important sites, including the bus stop, train station, clock tower, and numerous markets. Singh asked the municipal corporation to take quick action on the issue.

It is important to note that a public restroom was positioned next to the clock tower, but it was taken down a few years ago. Due to a shortage of accessible restrooms, former council member Parminder Mehta bemoaned the ugly sight of individuals peeing in public areas close to the bus stop and outside the train station. The city seems unsightly outside the train station and other public areas because of the unhygienic circumstances brought on by open urinating. Numerous public restrooms now in use are not being properly maintained. He emphasized that in order to address this issue, it is the municipal body’s duty to build sufficient public restrooms.

Similar to this, people at Saggu Chowk are forced to discharge themselves on the side of the road since there are no public restrooms there. There is a persistent stink in the region because public restroom construction has not been completed despite repeated requests from the community. In addition, women who visit other marketplaces have difficulties due to the dearth of public restrooms.

The MC’s Nodal Officer for Health, Ashwani Sahota, promised to investigate the issue of open urinating close to the train station and other surrounding areas. He did clarify, however, that the MC’s Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Branch is in charge of managing public restrooms.

The MC’s Executive Engineer in charge of O&M, Parshotam, said that there are public restrooms close to the train station and in other places. He promised that they would efficiently handle any problems over open urinating.
