‘Utterances That Are Repugnant…’: Randeep Surjewala’s ‘Made To Lick’ Remarks Against Hema Malini Draw Congress’ Disapproval

Congress politician Randeep Surjewala faces disciplinary proceedings from the Election Commission for his offensive remarks on BJP MP Hema Malini. In response to a controversial comment Surjewala made, the Election Commission formally notified him.

“Needless to say that the above comments are undignified, vulgar and uncivilised and have not only caused great insult to Smt Hema Malini and disrespect to her position as a member of parliament, but also causes damage to honour and dignity of women legislators, across political formations, of women in public life and of all women in general,” the EC letter to Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge stated.

“It is unfortunate that despite the Commission bringing it to the notice of the party at your level, the campaigners of Indian National Congress are still indulging in utterances that are repugnant to the honour and dignity of women.”

Surjewala was heard asking, “Why do people elect their MLAs/MPs? ” in a video released by the BJP. in order for them (MLAs/MPs) to represent the public. It’s not like the election of Hema Malini.
Subsequently, Surjewala defended himself, saying he had really shown appreciation for Hema Malini and that the BJP IT unit had misrepresented his remarks.

In response to Surjewala’s remark, Hema Malini criticized the Congress and said that the party should target well-liked people rather than disliked ones. She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should teach the Congress how to respect women.

The event happened in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha elections, which are important in Mathura since Hema Malini is running for reelection a third time. On April 26, Mathura will cast its ballot in the second round of the elections; the results will be tallied on June 4.
