Voters were lined up as early as 6.30 am at a few locations, including the Blessed Mother Theresa School in Mudaliarpet.

At the Veerampattinam polling station, visually handicapped 89-year-old Godanthapani, the grandfather of AIADMK candidate G Tamizhvendhan, and his 86-year-old wife Krishnaammal cast their ballots. K Pakkiri Ammal, a 74-year-old former Congress MLA from Embalam, declined to use her senior citizen privilege to skip the line and instead stood in line at a booth.

Pooviarasi Arumugham, an 18-year-old first-time voter from Singapore, added to the eclectic mix of voters. “I have been closely monitoring the Indian elections.” When I learned that a voting place had been established at the same institution where my father had attended, my curiosity was piqued,” she said.

In terms of environmental preservation and sustainable living, the voting booth at VOC Government Higher Secondary School has a lot to offer. Coconut fronds, millet, and maize were used to adorn the booth. Nutritious meals and canvas bags were given to the voters.

The Narikuravars, who had abstained from participating in the previous elections, used their right to vote this time around because District Election Officer/Collector A Kulothungan promised to address their housing and drinking water concerns after the polls.

While Lok Sabha member V Vaithilingam cast his ballot in Maducarai, former chief minister V Narayanasamy at the VOC school, and BJP candidate Namachivayam in the Manaveli booth, Chief Minister N Rangasamy drove a motorbike to a booth in Thilaspet to cast his ballot.
