Water scarcity may impact Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar brewers’ supply: Official

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: According to an official, there is a water deficit in certain areas of the Marathwada region of Maharashtra, which might result in a reduction in the water supply to breweries in the district of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Water demands for residential and industrial regions in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna district are met by the Jayakwadi dam’s Nath Sagar reservoir.
In the 2023–24 fiscal year, twelve enterprises in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar produced 3,778.28 bulk liters of beer and 761.53 lakh bulk liters of liquor, bringing in Rs 5,455.70 crore in income for the state—an increase of Rs 347.14 crore over the previous year.

As of April 4, 443 water tankers were in service in the area, despite a shortage. According to a revenue official, 269 villages and 48 hamlets now rely on tanker water supplies.
When questioned on Monday about the availability and management of water, Collector Dilip Swami told reporters that their first concern was to ensure that water was fit for human use.
“But if the water requirement of breweries in the city is greater, then we can take a decision to curtail their supply,” he said.
As part of the ‘Samvad Setu’ event, which was planned to have conversations about the impending Lok Sabha elections in the district, the collector was talking with media representatives.
