“We Certainly Support…”: US Responds To Elon Musk’s Statement Regarding India’s Permanent UNSC Seat

Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the US State Department, Vedant Patel, said that the US expressed support on Wednesday for improvements to the UN system, particularly the UN Security Council (UNSC).

In response to Elon Musk’s speech on Tesla, Vedant Patel said, “The President has spoken about this before in his remarks to the UN General Assembly and the Secretary has alluded to this as well.” India does not have a permanent seat in the UNSC.

“We wholeheartedly endorse modifications to the United Nations organization, encompassing the Security Council, in order to better align it with the realities of the contemporary world.” We definitely acknowledge the need for change, but I won’t go into details just now. For the time being, I’ll just say that,” he said.

Musk referred to India’s lack of a permanent seat in the UNSC as “absurd” earlier in January of this year and said that countries with excessive power are unwilling to give it up.

“A revamp of the UN bodies is eventually required. The issue is that those in positions of excess power are unwilling to cede them. India is the most populous nation on Earth, so it is ridiculous that it does not have a permanent place on the Security Council. Africa as a whole needs to have a permanent seat in the IMO, the CEO of Tesla stated on X, previously Twitter.

For a considerable amount of time, India has been pursuing a permanent membership on the Security Council in order to more effectively represent the concerns of the developing world. Notably, after receiving backing from the international community, the nation’s demand has gained pace.

The initial composition of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) was 15 nations, 5 of which were permanent members and 10 of which were non-permanent members chosen to serve two-year terms. The council’s five permanent members have the authority to veto a vote.

BJP VOWS FOR A PERMANENT SEAT IN THE UN SC
In the meantime, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) promised to seek permanent membership for the nation in the UN Security Council in its electoral platform, “Sankalp Patra,” ahead of the country’s Lok Sabha elections.

In their Sankalp Patra, the BJP said, “We are committed to seeking permanent membership in the UN Security Council to elevate Bharat’s position in global decision-making.”
