“Will help boost artisans’ and farmers’ income,” articulates Taranjit Singh Sandhu’s goals

Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the BJP contender for the Amritsar local assembly seat, has declared his commitment to getting a special economic package from the central government for the border district of Amritsar’s overall development.

During a meeting here, former US Ambassador Sandhu outlined his objectives, which include resuming bilateral commerce between India and Pakistan via the Attari-Wagah land route, accelerating the Ferozepur-Makhu rail connection, and making the most use of the air cargo facility.

Improved connections with Southeast Asia and Gulf nations like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates might greatly boost Amritsar’s economic development by providing opportunities for the export of regionally produced goods, as well as for expansion in the tourist, industrial, and many other sectors. PM Narendra Modi’s strategy has transformed the US-Indian relationship into a partnership. Amritsar will be a part of this chance, I hope. Numerous foreign companies, including Microsoft, Micron, and mobile phone companies, have expressed interest in investing in India, he stated. He also recalled that he had personally approached External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, asking him to take the necessary steps to establish a US consulate office in Amritsar.

Citing his vision, he suggested that Amritsar might become a brand for its domestically produced goods, such as “Punjabi juttis,” “papad and warian,” apparel, and jewelry that could be sold abroad.

He used the example of Hero Cycles, established in Ludhiana, which are now offered by Walmart in the US, saying, “Incidentally, this venture fructified during my service.” My aim for the writings that Amritsar is renowned for is the same. Our artists, merchants, and other supporting units will make many times as much money from it. Vegetables like peas, cabbage, and other products may be sold to West Asia to increase progressive farmers’ revenue, he said.

He said that the goal of education policy should be to create jobs as well as degrees.
