The Story of BJP’s 28 Rajya Sabha Names: 4 Repetition, 3 “Retired,” & A Few Taking a Chance for Lok Sabha Battle

The BJP’s declaration of 28 candidates for the Rajya Sabha is a tale of three Rs: retirements, repetition, and putting all on the line for the Lok Sabha elections.

For three BJP leaders, at least in terms of parliamentary politics, it is almost the end of the road, even if only four of the 28 have been replicated. In the meanwhile, a number of those holding cabinet positions are probably going to be put up in the Lok Sabha, where they will be required to demonstrate their abilities.

ANOTHER TURN
The four individuals who have been chosen again are JP Nadda, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Ashwini Vaishnaw and L Murugan, two Union ministers, and the well-spoken national spokesman for the saffron party, Sudhanshu Trivedi. Vaishnaw is the nominee from Odisha, which was thought to be the state from where he will be contested in the Lok Sabha. Gujarat, the home state of Modi, is the nomination source for Nadda.

Nadda is the first BJP member leaving the Rajya Sabha to have served two terms without being reelected. This is seen to be almost a portent of the Lok Sabha lists to come, since several incumbent Members are anticipated to be replaced.

Congress reiterated the legal representation of Syed Nasir Hussain, GC Chandrashekar, and Abhishek Manu Singhvi, to put matters in perspective. The last Rajya Sabha election from Haryana was lost by Maken.

THREE RETIRES?
Three BJP leaders appear to be at the end of their parliamentary political careers: media chief Anil Baluni, former Union minister Prakash Javadekar (who was one of many asked to resign as a minister to make room for others), and former deputy chief minister of Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi.

While Javadekar is said to have reached the end of his political career and is now involved in organizational affairs, namely building the party in Kerala, Baluni has fought sickness for a considerable amount of time. In Bihar, however, Samrat Choudhury, who is much younger and more assertive, has taken Modi’s position. It’s conceivable that he will also benefit the organization.

“RISK TAKERS” SEVEN?
The terms of seven ministers in the Rajya Sabha are almost up: Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Mansukh Mandaviya, Parshottam Rupala, Narayan Rane, V Muraleedharan, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Bhupendra Yadav. However, the BJP has not nominated any of them again. Given that Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan’s assembly elections established the precedent, there is conjecture that a significant number, if not all of them, may be invited to participate in the Lok Sabha elections.

Right present, each minister is in charge of important ministries. While Mandaviya takes care of health, Chandrashekhar has skill development, IT, and Jal Shakti, among other things. Rane is in charge of Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSME), while Rupala is in charge of dairy and animal husbandry, among other things. The minister of state for parliamentary and foreign affairs is Muraleedharan. Yadav is in charge of the environment ministry, while Pradhan is in charge of education.

Both Pradhan and Yadav are essential to the smooth operation of the BJP’s electoral apparatus and organizational issues. In BJP circles, there is a whispery discussion over how likely it is that Pradhan would take Nadda’s place as party chief. Yadav was leading the party’s Madhya Pradesh electoral squad.

PERSONALLY MADE THE CUT?
In choosing members of the Upper House, the BJP took care to maintain a strict balance amongst castes, ensuring that farmers, Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes (OBC), and most significantly, Sangh Parivar cadres, were all represented.

Several heads of obscure state organizations have been included. Women leaders are being given extra attention. Women leaders Dharmshila Gupta from Bihar, Medha Kulkarni from Maharashtra, and Maya Naroliya from Madhya Pradesh have all been linked to the BJP’s Mahila Morcha and have received recognition that is deserved of them.

Congress turncoat Ashok Chavan was also handed a ticket in the era of political realism.
