Will respect party decision: Rahul Gandhi on running for Amethi LS elections

In the midst of heavy speculation on Wednesday over whether he will run in the Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that he would follow his party’s choice.

Gandhi made the comments at a joint news conference with Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, held here.

Gandhi said, “The party will decide on Amethi,” when asked whether he will run for office in Amethi instead of Wayanad. Whatever command I get, I will follow it.”

Elections in Wayanad and Amethi are scheduled on April 26.

In addition to his stated seat of Wayanad in Kerala, there is conjecture that Gandhi may run for the Lok Sabha from Amethi, a constituency he formerly represented for three times in a row, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from Rae Bareli, a seat that her mother, Sonia Gandhi, once held.

The Gandhi family’s two scions are expected to run for office from these seats, which are regarded as their strongholds by the local Congress units.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) have formed an alliance, and the two parties are running for 17 Lok Sabha seats.

Beginning on April 19, there will be seven phases to the Lok Sabha elections. On June 4, the vote-counting process will begin.
