Will Sonia Gandhi Run for the Rajya Sabha? Congress’s Statements Are Here

The state Congress unit has urged to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi to represent the state in the Rajya Sabha, and she is anticipated to do so.

Speaking on the subject, state unit president Jitu Patwari said on Monday that senior leader Kamal Nath recently met with Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and asked her to take the party unit’s proposal into consideration.

Soniaji is wanted to represent the state in the Rajya Sabha by the Madhya Pradesh Congress. According to Patwari’s remark, prominent state leaders and MLAs agree on this demand.

“The Congress party in the state feels that the voice of people will be strengthened if Soniaji, who had declined the post of prime minister in the past, goes to Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh,” he said.

This occurs when the terms of the current members of five Madhya Pradesh seats are about to expire. Four of the five seats in total are controlled by the governing BJP, while the opposition Congress has one.

Gandhi may get a party nomination for the single Himachal Pradesh seat, as per the sources reported by PTI, as she is not expected to run for the Lok Sabha this time. Gandhi said that the 2019 Lok Sabha elections will be her last general election fight.

No candidates have yet been announced by the Congress for the 56 seats from 15 states up for election every two years. Nominations must be submitted by February 15th, and elections are scheduled for February 27th.

However, Tika Ram Jully, the leader of the opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, pleaded with the high command to declare Sonia Gandhi’s candidacy from Rajasthan.

“We have asked the president of the country and the high command to propose Sonia Gandhi, a resident of Rajasthan, for the Rajya Sabha. All of the state’s Congress employees would be overjoyed if she is elected from this area, the Congress leader said.
