Women’s Reservation Bill “Reluctantly” Backed by Congress, PM Says; Compares Party To “Rusted Iron”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Congress over the women’s reservation law on Monday, claiming the opposition party and its allies in the new “ghamandia” coalition “reluctantly” backed the historic measure. Modi sounded the election horn in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan with back-to-back rallies.

The Congress held news conferences in 21 cities on the same day that the prime minister attacked the party during his large rallies in Bhopal and Jaipur. The Congress claimed that this was part of its strategy to “expose the Modi government” regarding the women’s reservation bill that was approved by Parliament last Thursday. The Congress retaliated by claiming that Modi was making a “cruel joke” on the nation’s women.

Assembly elections are scheduled for five states later this year, including MP and Rajasthan.

‘Karyakarta Mahakumb’, a meeting of BJP members, in Bhopal, where he again compared the Congress to “rusted iron” and said that “urban Naxals” were in charge of running the party. Over five lakh workers attended the ceremony, according to a senior BJP official.

After dedicating a monument to the party’s founder Deendayal Upadhyaya on his birthday, Modi spoke at a BJP event in Delhi about the approval of the women’s quota law, saying it is a victory for both democracy and the party’s philosophy. He continued by saying that one cannot discuss an inclusive society or democratic integration without enough involvement of women in politics.

The long-delayed request to provide women reservations was finally approved by Parliament, according to BRS MLC K Kavitha, and as a result, the country is now ready to stand with other nations with its head held high.

She said during a rally in Nizamabad, Telangana, “I can assert that the BRS party is the reason for bringing up the women’s reservation bill and making this country stand alongside other nations holding its head high.”

In Madhya Pradesh, Modi issued a warning, saying that if given the chance, the Congress would renege on its support for a law that would provide women 33% of the seats in Parliament and state legislatures.

The massive gathering of workers was held to commemorate the official end of the saffron party’s “Jan Ashirwad Yatras” that crisscrossed Madhya Pradesh.

As the “ghamandia” INDIA alliance had “reluctantly” backed the women’s quota bill, Modi said he wished to warn the ladies of MP. The opposition INDIA group has been referred to by the prime minister as “ghamandia” (arrogant).

“The Congress and its supporters in the ‘ghamandia’ (arrogant) bloc (INDIA) backed the women’s reservation bill out of obligation and reluctance as they were aware of the strength of ‘nari shakti’. ‘Modi hai to Mumkin hai’ made its passage through Parliament feasible. Modi is an assurance that promises would be kept.

When the Congress and its allies controlled the government at the center, Modi criticized them for failing to ensure the legislation’s passage.

“For the last 30 years, the bill’s progress has been impeded by its (Congress’s) sympathizers. He questioned, “They ran the government for decades with a majority but why they did not push the bill through?” He remarked that now they raise their hands as a result of being forced to do so as women get awakened.

He warned women to be vigilant against attempts to split them and noted that the opposition will look for loopholes in the law.

Later, speaking at a BJP event in Jaipur, Modi said that the Congress never intended to empower women, or otherwise it would have approved a law granting them a portion of the vote when it was in power. He added that the party had changed its position in response to pressure from women.

The finale of the BJP’s four “Parivartan Yatras” across Rajasthan was the “Parivartan Sankalp Mahasabha.”

Modi said that the Congress and its “ghamandiya” allies are adamantly opposed to women receiving reservations.

“Congress never intended to give the nation’s women more authority. The reality is that the Congressmen never intended women to get a 33 percent reservation, despite the fact that they could have done so thirty years ago or when they had the opportunity, he stated.

Even now, if they have come out in favor of the Nari Shakti Vandan bill, it is because of pressure from all the women and they have done so directly. He said that individuals who had opposed the measure under the UPA administration are still exerting pressure in an effort to change the subject and that ladies should exercise extreme caution.

He was greeted earlier by members of the BJP Mahila Morcha at the meeting location.

The prime minister traveled from a nearby helicopter to the location in Dadiya hamlet in Vatika outside of Jaipur in an open-top vehicle accompanied by BJP women’s wing workers who chanted in his favor.

While the women’s reservation law has been approved by Parliament, AICC spokeswoman Mahima Singh noted that it cannot be put into effect until after the results of the next census, which is typical of the BJP’s platform of “wait for your rights but vote for us now.”

At a news conference in Guwahati, Singh questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “played the cruel joke” on the nation’s women by repeatedly asking them to wait before exercising their right to political participation.
