2027 World Athletics Championships will be Held in Beijing
The world authority overseeing track and field confirmed on Wednesday that Beijing will host the 2027 World Athletics Championships.
The World Athletics Indoor Championships were last held in Beijing in 2015. The World Athletics Indoor Championships will be held in Nanjing, China, in 2019.
Sebastian Coe, president of World Athletics, said that Beijing was selected in part because to its high commercial demand for the elite Diamond League circuit in 2023 (368.9 million viewers).
“China is one of the largest sports markets in the world, with a population of over 1.4 billion people,” Coe said.
“This presents a tremendous opportunity to expand our sport and fan base in one of the world’s largest commercial markets.”
Tokyo will host the 2025 World Athletics Championships, which were last hosted in Budapest in August.
