“A Crisis Is Needed at Manchester City and Arsenal,” says Jurgen Klopp in an apology to Liverpool supporters after the loss in the Merseyside Derby

Following a shocking 2-0 loss at Everton on Wednesday, Jurgen Klopp acknowledged that Liverpool would need to collapse against Manchester City and Arsenal in order to win the Premier League.

The Reds’ ambitions of winning the league were in jeopardy as Klopp experienced a loss in front of an audience in the Merseyside derby for the first time.

With four games left, Liverpool trails Arsenal by three points and is just one point ahead of City, who still have two games to play.

The table is readable. Klopp, who is almost done at Anfield, said, “We need a crisis at City and Arsenal and we need to win football games.”

With only one loss in 18 meetings before, the German had a commanding record against Everton; nevertheless, his last encounter with the Merseyside derby was not a pleasant one.

Klopp said, “It was not the most inspired performance.”

“I apologize deeply for it; I really feel bad for the individuals. I’ve already heard from people regarding Derby records. To have lost something seems like a whole new experience.

“It happened even though it wasn’t necessary.”

Klopp’s team has witnessed a run of four victories in nine games send them sailing down the Premier League standings and out of the FA Cup and Europa League.

Virgil van Dijk, the captain of Liverpool, urged the team not to let Klopp’s departure end on a down note.

“I believe that everyone has to examine themselves in the mirror to see how they performed and if they gave it their all. Are they really interested in winning the league? Van Dijk said.

“We didn’t measure up. All of us need to do much better. The season cannot end the way it did tonight. We need to improve greatly in every aspect.
