After calls to come out of retirement for the T20 World Cup, Sunil Narine makes a stunning statement, saying, “I’ve made peace with that decision.”

On Monday, Sunil Narine said that he will not be changing his mind about retiring from international cricket and participating in the forthcoming T20 World Cup.

Many urged Narine to come out of retirement and play for the West Indies once again after seeing how well he played with the bat and the ball for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

With nine wickets throughout the campaign, Narine helped the West Indies win their maiden T20 World Cup in 2012—their first World Cup victory in any format since 1979. After that, he only played in the 2014 T20 World Cup.

In a T20I, Narine last competed for the West Indies in August 2019.

Playing for Trinidad in the now-defunct Champions League T20 in 2011, Narine gained notoriety. His ability to bowl a variety of variants, such as skidders, knuckleballs, carrom balls, etc., made him an immediate success.

During an ODI against India in Ahmedabad in 2011, the Trinidadian made his debut for the Windies on the international front. He has since made 65 appearances in ODIs and taken 92 wickets. In six Test matches and 51 Twenty20 matches, he has also played for the Caribbeans, taking 21 and 52 wickets, respectively.

Since joining KKR in the IPL in 2011, Narine has been a vital member of the team and has gained popularity in T20 competitions all around the world.

Because Narine was punished on a few occasions for allegedly using an unlawful bowling motion, his bowling has historically generated a great deal of controversy. He was able to modify his action, however, and he kept having almost identical effects.

Because he has performed well as a hard-hitting opener in several T20 tournaments, Narine’s batting has also turned the spinner into an unusual all-rounder.
