After defeating South Africa, Rohit Sharma said, “We Needed Virat Kohli to Go Out There and Play the Situation”

Team India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, gave an insight into their strategy against South Africa on the challenging Eden Gardens ground, which enabled them to win the World Cup on Sunday. With one game remaining, the Men in Blue ensured they would end the league stage at the top of the points table by comprehensively outclassing South Africa and winning by a huge 243 runs.

According to Rohit, the idea was for other batsmen to play around Kohli while he handled the issue.

“We wanted Kohli to take the field and manipulate the circumstances. During the post-match presentation, Rohit said, “We knew we had to keep it in the right areas and let the pitch do the rest.”

Shreyas Iyer, meantime, has also regained his form and has hit back-to-back fifty runs. In response to a question about Iyer returning the favor of the support, Rohit said he would have remained by his side even had he lost the previous few games.

“I would have stayed with them even if the faith hadn’t been returned. We must maintain the confidence. You can’t do it every day. Iyer’s abilities have been shown in the last two games,” he said.

“Gill and I have been playing together for a considerable amount of time now. We let our instincts to rule us. We don’t make any prior plans. We just evaluate and adjust as necessary,” he said.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India a strong start after winning the toss, scoring 62 runs together before Kagiso Rabada dismissed the Indian captain.

The daring first player said that they play the game as it is played and have no preconceived notions before entering the center.

“Gill and I have been playing together for a considerable amount of time now. We let our instincts to rule us. We don’t make any prior plans. We just evaluate and adjust as necessary,” he said.

Ravindra Jadeja, who collected a fifer and hit a crucial 29 runs off of 15 balls, was also praised by the captain for his all-around performance.

“Jadeja has been a huge help to us. playing over the years in all formats. Today was a typical example of what Jadeja means to everyone of us. came up with crucial runs in the end. after that obtained wickets. He is aware of his responsibilities and what is expected of him,” Rohit said.

The 36-year-old discussed the team’s resilient nature and how it has enabled them to overcome challenging circumstances in the previous three games.

“We have improved our adaptability if you look at how we have performed over the previous three games. England was the target of pressure directed at us. But once we received a respectable score, the seamen completed the task. Within the first over, we lost a wicket. The seamers performed nicely once they received runs, he said.
