For the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which the United States and the West Indies will co-host in June of this year, South Africa has unveiled their 15-man roster. In recognition of their outstanding performance in the most recent SA20, South Africa’s franchise T20 competition, Ryan Rickelton and Ottniel Baartman—both of whom have not yet received a T20I cap—have been selected captains with Aiden Markram.

Wayne Parnell, Temba Bavuma, Raisse van der Dussen, and Rilee Roussow have all been disregarded. In the previous two T20 World Cups, Bavuma guided South Africa.

The following players are in the South Africa T20 World Cup squad: Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs, Quinton de Kock, Bjorn Fortuin, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Quinton de Kock, Anita Baartman, Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Anrich Nortje, captain.

Reserves for travel: Lungi Ngidi and Nandre Burger

The clubs have until May 25 to make any modifications to this tentative roster.

Prior to the T20 World Cup, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has also selected a second team for a three-match T20I series against the West Indies.

Five pacers from South Africa are going to the world cup, one of them being Anrich Nortje, who last competed for his country in September 2023. Gerald Coetzee, Baartman, all-arounder Marco Jansen, and Kagiso Rabada will be accompanying Nortje.

Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi will head the spin department, with Bjorn Fortuin serving as the third specialist spinner and captain Markram being a good backup.

The big-hitting Heinrick Klaasen, Quinton de Kock, Markram, David Miller, and Tristan Stubbs will be key players for South Africa’s batting attack.

The two traveling reserves are Lungi Ngidi and Nandre Burger, the pace pair.

South Africa, which hosted the first World T20 in 2007, has advanced twice to the semifinals but has never taken home the trophy.

They were third in their group and missed out on the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup, although they were still eligible for the Super 12 stage.
