Asian Championships: Sarita Mor falls in the quarterfinals, Anju and Harshita win silver

Anju and Harshita settled for silver medals at the Asian Championships, while Sarita Mor was eliminated after a shocking loss in her first round here today. The gold medal has continued to escape Indian wrestlers.

Anju, who had defeated Vinesh Phogat in the selection trials, was competing in the very contested 53kg weight class. She won both of her matches by technical dominance against Aliah Rose Gavalez of the Philippines and Nethmi Ahinsa Fernando of Sri Lanka. Before winning 9–6, she had to overcome considerable opposition from Chun Lei of China in the quarterfinal.

Anju was unable to score a single point in the championship game and was defeated by North Korea’s Ji Hyang Kim due to technical superiority.

In the final, Harshita gave up only three points while defeating Ozoda Zaripboeva of Uzbekistan 13–3 because to her better technical ability.

Anastassiya Panassovich of Kazakhstan won 5-0. She was unable to overcome Qian Jiang of China, however, and lost the 72kg championship match 2–5.

But Mongolia’s Gantuya Enkhbat defeated World Championship medalist Sarita 4–8 in their quarterfinal match. The 28-year-old was favored to win a medal.

Bronze went to Manisha Bhanwala (62 kg) and Antim Kundu (65 kg).
