Gabriel Diallo loses against Sumit Nagal in his Miami Open debut

In winning a straight-set match against Gabriel Diallo of Canada, Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal displayed remarkable poise, getting off to a promising start in his Miami Open debut.

In Monday’s first-round qualifying encounter, the 26-year-old Canadian Diallo, who stands 6 feet 8 inches tall, was outplayed by the player who maintained composure in key moments, winning 7-6(3) 6-2.

Nagal, who won the Chennai Open last month and moved up into the world’s top 100, will next play Coleman Wong.

After surviving a break point in the seventh game, Nagal prevailed in the first set tiebreaker. In the second set, he dominated and broke Diallo in both the first and seventh games.

After this victory, he is probably going to set a new career high by rising to global No. 92.

After Rafael Nadal’s last-minute withdrawal from the Indian Wells event, Nagal advanced to the main draw but lost to Milos Raonic there.

When Nagal reached the Australian Open second round in January, it caused quite a stir. He had entered the top 100 in the ATP rankings largely because of his effort.
