In response to reports that 36% of graduates are unemployed, IIT Bombay offers data-driven clarification

Placement at IIT Bombay 2024: When a student from a renowned university is not placed in a college, it raises questions about unemployment in India and draws attention to more significant problems in the labour market. Only 712 of the roughly 2,000 students who applied for the 2024 IIT Bombay placements have jobs, with the remaining about 36% still looking for work, according to a Hindustan Times story.

IIT Bombay highlighted that only 6.1% of its students are looking for work prospects, nevertheless, by publishing a post on X. The institution released this statement in reaction to a news article that said 36% of the students in the current batch were not placed.

IIT Bombay shared a pie graphic on X, the former Twitter platform, and said, “Recently, it was reported that more than 30% of IITB graduates do not find employment! Only 6.1% of students who graduated in 2022–2023, according to an exit poll, are still seeking work. This is the survey’s outcome for your decision.

In contrast to 1.6% of students who want to launch their own business, 57.1 percent of students were placed in IIT Bombay placements, according to the pie chart released by the Institute. IIT Bombay produced a pie chart showing that 12.2% of students choose to pursue additional degrees, 10.3% obtain employment outside of college, and 8.3% are interested in public service. Out of all the students placed by IIT Bombay, 588.8% were female. In the meantime, 5.6% of men and 8.1% of women are still seeking employment.

One of India’s top technological colleges, IIT Bombay, was founded in 1958 with help from outside. The Soviet Union provided funding for UNESCO, and in 1961, Parliament named it an “Institute of National Importance.” One person commented, “It’s just a survey,” in response to the study that the institution released.
