In the T20 World Cup, I want to see Rohit Sharma captain the team: Gautam Gambhir

The ODI World Cup came to a close a few days ago, and the attention is already quickly turning to the T20 World Cup of the following year.

Australia defeated the Indian squad, captained by Rohit Sharma, in the ODI championship match on Sunday after a thrilling journey to the final.

With the bat, Rohit was in incredible form, and his very aggressive style contributed to the Indian team’s fast starts by giving the middle order the breathing room they needed to bat for the duration of the innings.

With 597 runs at the end of the tournament, Rohit was second only to his India teammate Virat Kohli, who amassed a record 765 runs.

Despite not having played the format for an international team in more than a year, India great Gautam Gambhir has supported both Rohit and Kohli to qualify for the T20 World Cup given their fantastic performance in the league.

Both Rohit and Virat Kohli last played for India in a Twenty20 International match, which ended in a loss to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal.

On Sportsskeeda, Gambhir said, “They (Rohit and Kohli) both need to get picked, both should be picked, and more importantly, I want to see Rohit Sharma as captain in the T20 World Cup.”

“Yes, Hardik has been leading in Twenty20 Internationals, but I still prefer Rohit to lead in the World Cup.” Choose Rohit Sharma as a batter, but not alone. With his batting in this ODI World Cup, Rohit has shown that he is a fantastic leader,” he said.

Rohit shouldn’t be selected as a hitter alone, according to Gambhir, if he wants to play T20Is in the future.

In the event that you choose Rohit, as you should, Virat will be selected by default. Rohit should be chosen as a captain who can bat if he chooses to participate in the T20 World Cup, according to Gambhir.
