India is guaranteed three medals at the Asian Games in archery, including gold and silver in the compound events

As they advanced to the finals of the individual compound archery competitions at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, the People’s Republic of China on Tuesday, world champions Ojas Pravin Deotale, Abhishek Verma, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam guaranteed India three medals in the compound events, including Gold and Silver.
On Saturday, the men’s individual compound competition will feature an all-Indian final between Ojas and fellow countryman Abhishek Verma. The pair declared that India will win a gold and silver medal in the division.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam defeated fellow countrywoman and the current world archery champion Aditi Gopichand Swami in the women’s Individual compound event to advance to the gold medal match and ensure another medal.

Ojas beat Kazakhstan’s Akbarali Karabayev in the quarterfinals by a score of 150-142 before defeating Jaewon Yang of Korea, a previous world champion, by a score of 150-146 to go to the championship match.

Andrey Tyutyun of Kazakhstan was defeated by Abhishek Verma in a shootout after the scores were level at 147 all in the last eight. In the semifinals, the seasoned Indian archer defeated Jaehoon Joo of South Korea 147-145.

After eliminating Kazakhstan’s Adel Zhexenbinova in the quarterfinals, Jyothi defeated Aditi 149-146 to go to the semifinals.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam will compete against Chaewon So of South Korea in the final on Saturday. For the bronze medal, Aditi will compete against Ratih Zilizati Fadhly of Indonesia.

Atanu Das and Dhiraj Bommadevara, two archers who competed in the solo recurve event later that day, bowed out to finish India’s campaign. Bhajan Kaur and Ankita Bhakat were eliminated in rounds 32 and 16, respectively.

Atanu Das, an Olympian, lost in a shootout to Chinese player Qi Xiangshuo 6-5 in the quarterfinals, while Dhiraj Bommadevara fell to Kazakhstani player Ilfat Abdullin in the last eight.

Indians are competing in every team competition in both divisions.
