IPL 2024: KKR vs. RCB: An explanation of Virat Kohli’s dismissal

Virat Kohli’s ejection from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) caused a great deal of controversy and division among supporters. As the RCB attempted to chase a massive 223, the RCB batsman was out for 18 off 7 balls.

Harshit Rana bowled Kolhi after a high full toss, and at first it seemed that there was no ball for height. The third umpire, however, decided that it was a fair delivery since Kohli hit the ball far beyond the crease and the slower delivery landed on the batsman.

If Kohli had been in his crease, according to the latest Hawk-Eye technology, the ball would have passed him at a distance of 0.92 meters from the ground. Kohli is 1.04 meters tall at the waist. Nevertheless, the hitter made contact with the ball over his waist since he was positioned outside his crease.

A new Hawk-Eye system, unveiled during the IPL, assesses the ball’s height as it passes the batter at the popping crease. After that, it is compared to the batter’s waist height (measured from the ground), and the findings are used to determine whether the delivery was legal or not.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis and Kohli got into a heated argument, with Kohli expressing dissatisfaction with the third umpire’s decision. Before storming off the field, he had a few words with the on-field umpires. Kolhi wasn’t out, and both hitters believed there was no ball.

After the game, Du Plessis discussed it and said that there are always two sides to each story. He also added that the rules are the rules. The rules are, of course, the rules. At that point, Virat and I speculated that the ball may have been higher than his waist. They measure it, I suppose, on the popping crease. There will always be one team under certain circumstances that is content and one team that doesn’t think the choice was the best one. The RCB skipper said, “But that is how the game is played.
