IPL2024: After a 60-run victory, RCB eliminates PBKS from the competition in all categories

May 10, Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, India: Rilee Rossouw scored a superb half-century, but it was in vain as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bowlers put on an outstanding show to dismiss Punjab Kings (PBKS) for only 181 runs on Thursday, securing a 60-run victory in Dharamsala.

With 10 points from five wins, seven defeats, and one tie, RCB is ranked seventh. With four victories, eight defeats, and eight points overall, PBKS sits in ninth position. Punjab has exited the competition.

Prabhsimran Singh, the Punjab Kings’ opener, was dismissed early in the 242 run chase by Swapnil Singh, who trapped him leg-before-wicket for only six runs in four deliveries.

As the second player to come to the crease, Rilee Rossoue put pressure on the bowlers from the first ball on, hitting Swapnil for two fours in his first two deliveries.

Jonny Bairstow, the opener, and Rossouw gradually gained pace and began hitting the RCB bowlers all over the field. Rossouw hit three fours and a six to amass 18 runs in Mohammed Siraj’s fourth over.

Yash Dayal struck for six at the beginning of the subsequent over, helping PBKS accomplish their fifty-run target in 4.1 overs. Dayal threw up 16 runs in his over, with Bairstow scoring six and Rossouw scoring four apiece.

Lockie Ferguson was hit for two fours by Bairstow in an attempt to conclude the powerplay on a high note, but Faf Du Plessis made a diving catch to complete his innings at 27 in 16 balls with four boundaries and a six. 71/2 for PBKS in 5.5 overs.

With Rossouw being the main aggressor, Shashank Singh and Rossouw carried on with their innings unconcerned. With eight fours and two sixes, Rossouw scored his second fifty in only twenty-one balls.

After Rossouw hit a cracking boundary over the cover zone, PBKS celebrated their 100-run milestone in 8.2 overs. But bowler Karn Sharma got the last laugh, dismissing Rossouw for 61 off 27 balls, including three sixes and nine fours. Will Jacks finish off a great grab. PBKS finished nine overs at 107/3.

After ten overs, PBKS was 114/3, with Jitesh Sharma (1*) and Shashank Singh (18*) still undefeated.

The RCB bowlers tightened their grip on the game by dismissing Liam Livingstone for a duck and Jitesh Sharma (5) for a five by Karn. After 126 runs in 11.2 overs, half of the PBKS squad was back in the hut.

Shashank made an effort to maintain both his team’s hopes and the run-rate. In 13.3 overs, PBKS surpassed the 150 run milestone. But Virat dismissed Shashank for 37 in 19 balls after hitting two sixes and four boundaries. In 13.4 overs, PBKS scored 151/6.

After that, Siraj quickly assisted RCB in getting Ashutosh Sharma out for only eight runs by lbw. In 15 overs, PBKS scored 164/7.

Ferguson dismissed Harshal for zero after he had Sam Curran out for 22 in 16 balls, including two fours. In 16.1 overs, PBKS scored 174/9.

With a brilliant catch from Karn, Siraj secured his third wicket, eliminating Arshdeep for four runs. RCB defeated PBKS by 60 runs after hitting them for 181 runs in 17 overs.

For RCB, Siraj (3/43) was the best bowler. With the ball, Lockie (2/29), Swapnil (2/28) and Karn (2/36) made an impression as well.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Virat Kohli’s explosive 92-run innings earlier in the day helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeat Punjab Kings (PBKS) 241/7 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium.

The RCB batting team provided a strong target in a crucial IPL 2024 encounter after putting on a fantastic show in Dharamsala.

Sam Curran’s Punjab Kings won the toss and chose to send RCB to bat first, but their move did not work out.

The visitors were led by Faf du Plessis (9) and Kohli (92). Despite not making an impact on the match, the captain, Virat Kohli, did not leave a noticeable impression on the crease.

With Faf out of the game in the third over of the first inning, Vidhwath Kaverappa dismissed the RCB openers, allowing them to only jointly score 19 runs. The Proteas hitter struck out with a strike rate of 128.57, smashing only two fours.

Will Jacks (12) was lost by RCB shortly after the first dismissal, in the fifth over, with the visitors at 43/2. Just one was smashed by Jacks four and six.

But Rajat Patidar, who is fifty-five, was a great player at the bat, hitting six sixes and three fours in his 76-run partnership with Kohli.

Sam Curran removed Patidar from the game in the tenth over. On the scoreboard, however, it did not deter RCB from adding runs.

Cameron Green (46), Patidar’s replacement, didn’t take long to go to work. With a 92-run partnership, Kohli and Green enabled RCB to surpass 200 runs in the eighteenth over.

Despite being in fantastic form, the famous Indian batsman was unfortunate to be removed by Arshdeep Singh in the 18th over, which prevented him from reaching his century. He struck out six sixes and seven fours at a 195.74 mph pace.

Following Kohli’s departure, RCB rapidly lost wickets.

After dismissing Cameron Green (46), Mahipal Lomror (0), and Dinesh Karthik (18) in the same over in the first inning, Harshal Patel was unstoppable. But it was too little, too late; the RCB hitters had already wreaked havoc and scored 241/7.

During his four-over performance, Harshal Patel, the captain of the Punjab Kings bowling unit, claimed three wickets. Kaverappa took two wickets. In contrast, Sam Curran and Arshdeep Singh each claimed one wicket during their respective periods.

In the Dharamsala match, PBKS must score 242 runs to defeat the Bengaluru-based team.

Brief score: Punjab Kings: 181 in 17 overs (Rilee Rossouw 61, Shashank Singh 37, Mohammed Siraj 3/43) were defeated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru 241/7 (Virat Kohli 92, Rajat Patidar 55, Cameron Green 46; Harshal Patel 3/38).
