IPL2024: Hardik Pandya, captain of the Mumbai Indians, was fined Rs. 12 lakh for his slow overrate against PBKS

Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, was found guilty of violating the IPL Code of Conduct during Thursday’s match at Mullapur against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Due to his team’s poor over-rate during their exciting nine-run triumph against the Punjab Kings, he has been fined Rs 12 lakh.

Since it was his team’s first offense of the season, Pandya was penalized for minimum over-rate offenses, according to the official IPL announcement.

“The Mumbai Indians captain, Hardik Pandya, has been fined after his team played Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, on April 18 at a slow over-rate,” the notification said.

“Pandya was fined Rs 12 lakhs as it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences,” the statement said.

On Thursday, the Mumbai Indians defeated the Punjab Kings by nine runs after Ashutosh Sharma gave the five-time champions a serious fright with a remarkable 61-run blow. With a barrage of sixes in his 28-ball innings, he lifted Punjab from the verge of defeat to within striking distance, but his removal in the eighteenth over saw the Mumbai Indians take back the lead.

After being down to 17/4 in their pursuit of 193, Punjab rallied with the help of Ashutosh and Shashank Singh (41 off 25), finishing at 183 all-out in 19.1 overs.

Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav (78) was the team’s standout, leading them to 192 for seven.

Mumbai had won three of their previous seven games, while Punjab had suffered their fifth straight defeat. After their third victory in seven IPL 2024 games, MI moved up to seventh place from ninth on the points table, while PBKS fell to ninth after their fifth loss. On April 22, the Mumbai Indians will host the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.
