KL Rahul explains how Kohli’s advice played a crucial role in his match-winning 97*

When KL Rahul hammered a century against Pakistan at the Asia Cup, he maintained his strong run of play since making his comeback to international play last month. India defeated Australia in their IC Cricket World Cup 2023 first match on Sunday thanks to his most recent batting performances.

India was in danger when Rahul entered the batting order, having lost three wickets for only two runs while chasing 200 runs. Then, when Mitchell Marsh missed a straightforward catch of his, he saw Virat Kohli get a life on 12.

The day’s pitch conditions and India’s loss of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer in only two overs meant that the hosts required a substantial partnership.

As the two got to work on the repairs, Rahul and Kohli did just that.

Rahul said that the debate was about treating the game like a Test match for a time since the wicket was still favoring the bowlers.

In all honesty, there wasn’t much dialogue since I decided to have a decent shower and take a rest. All I was doing was attempting to catch my breath. Rahul remarked after the game, “Virat said there’s a little in the wicket, so play like Test cricket for a while.

When Kohli was out for 85, the partnership between the two fell apart after they had scored 165 runs for the fourth wicket.

Rahul, though, finished the game unblemished with 97.

With the new ball, the pacers and spinners both had some assistance. Dew played a role in the final 15-20 overs, which was quite helpful. Additionally, the ball slid better. But it wasn’t the flattest surface, it wasn’t the simplest to bat on, and it was a little bit two-paced. For both the bowlers and the hitters, the cricket field was favorable, according to Rahul.

When India needed five runs to win, Rahul was on 91. In order to get his century, he chose to hit a four and then maybe try for a maximum.

Rahul was rather unhappy when he ultimately hammered an outside off delivery over extra covers for a six. “I struck it too well; I simply figured out how to get a final score of 100. The only option was a four and a six, but he had no concerns about not reaching that hundred.
