Max Verstappen wins with ease
Max Verstappen, the three-time world champion, took home the first Formula One victory in China in five years, while Lando Norris of McLaren unexpectedly finished second to deprive dominating Red Bull the one-two.
Verstappen secured his fourth race win in five in 2024, defeating the opposition from pole position at a Shanghai track that last staged a Grand Prix in 2019. This result followed his victory in the season’s opening Saturday sprint.
Verstappen’s closest championship opponent, Sergio Perez of Mexico, finished second on the podium during a dry race marred by two safety car periods that affected his performance. Verstappen is now 25 points behind Perez.
Charles Leclerc of Ferrari and Carlos Sainz of Aston Martin finished fourth and fifth, respectively, while George Russell of Mercedes finished sixth and Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin finished seventh with a bonus point for the best lap.
