Mullanpur Stadium’s IPL curtains are closing, but supporters expect improved amenities going forward

Following the conclusion of the five-match Indian Premier League (IPL) mega match at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, spectators requested improved amenities for the stadium’s future cricket tournaments. It was the first time a significant event was held in the recently constructed stadium. It hasn’t yet hosted an international competition.

Although spectators liked the Punjab Kings team’s home games inside the stadium, there were still issues with the approach roads and parking areas. Many supporters traveled to Chandigarh and New Chandigarh to see the matches, clogging two of the city’s roadways. Matches between the Punjab Kings and the Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, and Gujarat Titans were held in the stadium. Despite the great hopes, the Punjab squad did not win any of their five games played here.

“After games ended, the traffic on both of the stadium’s approach roads was even more clogged. Fans were stranded for hours, according to onlooker Prabhdeep. “There should be proper signage on both approaching roads,” said a second onlooker. The administration ought to have also begun operating a shuttle bus service from parking areas that are distant from the stadium. If this stadium is to be used for hosting international events, the facilities here need to be improved.”

During the first game (Delhi Capitals), which was played in the intense heat, the supporters also had difficulties. But after this game, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) administration made an announcement.

intends to erect umbrellas to provide greater viewing during day games on the upper level of the stadiums.

Additionally, parking remained a difficulty. Even after the PCA administration attempted to resolve the issue by leasing the open fields that adjoined the stadium, the issue remained throughout the competition. Parking is a problem that has to be addressed. The cars were coated in dust even in the allocated parking areas, as seen by Sapna, a bystander. Towards the conclusion of the first power play, lengthy lines were seen at the admission gates.

Fans, meanwhile, enjoyed today’s last IPL match between the Gujarat Titans and the Punjab Kings. The Punjab team will now play two home games against the Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, respectively, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium in Dharamsala on May 5 and May 9. “Watching the players in action here was fantastic. Punjab had to endure another loss, but they performed well. Punjab discovered players this season like Shashank Singh and Aushutosh Sharma, who have the potential to compete in major tournaments in the road, Mandeep added.

A number of gate-crashing instances were seen during the most recent match. Many spectators were seen taking in the game while standing in the aisle. Fans were also unaffected by the absence of permanent seat number markings. Rather of having a permanent marker with the seat numbers on it, the seats were distinguished with a temporary sticker.
