Netherlands expect training sessions and exhibition games to have an impact in the 2023 World Cup

The Netherlands may attend the ICC World Cup 2023 as clear underdogs, but their coach Ryan Cook is counting on training sessions in India and exhibition games to help his team stand out during the quadrennial spectacle.

Netherlands will come in India in the middle of September and will have an acclimation camp in Bengaluru before taking against a few local teams.

They will then compete against Australia and India in Thiruvananthapuram’s pre-tournament warm-up games.

Cook anticipated that his team’s natural drive to win games would mesh with the time spent in India.

We are working as hard as we can to prepare. In India, there will be a few camps and warm-up games. They should be useful to us throughout the actual event. Everyone will be motivated to succeed once you start the competition, Cook remarked on Saturday while speaking to a small group of reporters.

The Dutch qualified for the World Cup earlier in July than groups like the West Indies, a two-time winner.

However, since that time, they haven’t participated in any international competitions, which has left them a little unprepared for the highly anticipated tournament that will take place in India in October and November.

Despite participating in two tournaments—in 1996 and 2011—the Netherlands has yet to win a World Cup game in India, and the creases on their faces will deepen.

Scott Edwards, the captain of the Netherlands, did not go deeply into the past.

“I don’t believe it is necessary that we look back in time. I believe your team has essentially changed entirely. Therefore, we are just considering it from the team’s perspective. We believe we’ve put up a number of respectable performances over the last two years, Edwards added.

In the World Cup league stage, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and India will face Netherlands.

The Orange Army has faced both Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the last year, adding some level of familiarity.

The squad will need to be more decisive in the major competition, particularly against spinners, according to Cook, even if their prior experience will serve them well.

We didn’t play that well (in the past), and they undoubtedly have good spinners. Therefore, when we have such opportunities, we just need to be more clinical. Just make sure we take advantage of them. For such, we have procedures in place. For such scenarios, we have practiced speaking.

I’m hoping you’ll win those games at the World Cup and make them count,” he remarked.

The Netherlands have a lot of potential, but they definitely need top-flight cricket experience.

There is a wealth of talent in the Netherlands, as seen by players like Edwards, Logan Van Beek, and Bas de Leede, many of whom also play cricket in the English league.
