“No question exists in my mind”: Shane Watson Assurance David Warner May Be Replaced by Cameron Green

After David Warner’s retirement, Australia’s selectors are looking at possibilities to choose Usman Khawaja’s opening partner for the next West Indies series in mid-January. Shane Watson believes Cameron Green has what it takes to succeed as a Test opener.

Watson says that although Green’s prior experience at the top of the order is not necessary, Australia must watch out for his bowling since it may take him a few games to get his strategy straight.

I have no doubts about his ability to (open). Cameron Green has to be included in the Australian squad, and here is your chance to give him a chance. Like with my bowling when I was opening the batting, they’ll only need to control his, Watson told ESPNCricinfo.

However, he has the knowledge, technique, and ability to score runs to make the most of his position as an opening hitter. It might take him a few of games to figure out precisely what his strategy is. However, he undoubtedly has the skills and mindset to capitalize on it,” he said.

Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft are also being examined as possible top-level replacements for Warner, in addition to Green.

Andrew McDonald, the coach, has intimated that Green is the one who should take Warner’s spot at the top. “Everything will be taken into account. And I added that we wouldn’t decide until the West Indies game, which is the deadline. However, Cameron Green has undoubtedly come up in the debate when it comes to the top six batters, McDonald had said.

Green made his Test debut in December 2020. In 24 Test matches, he has amassed 1075 runs at an average of 33.59, with five half-centuries and a century. In addition, he has 30 wickets, including a five-wicket performance at the MCG against South Africa.
